Mrs. Benita Bannerman-Davis, beloved wife of Mr. Ron Davis of Red Deer, passed away with her family by her side, on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at the age of 78 years.
Benita was born August 19, 1941 in High River. She grew up on a farm in Cayley, and attended High School in the Cayley - High River Area. She graduated from Holy Cross University in 1962, with a Degree in Nursing, and later went back to attend McGill University and University of Alberta, Edmonton, obtaining a Degree in Education. Benita had a powerful, resilient spirit, and was well-known for her ability to accomplish anything she set her mind to do. She served as both a Nurse and an Educator over a multi-faceted career. Highlights included working as an Emergency Room Nurse at a Major Trauma Unit in Hinton; Matron of a Nursing Home in Lacombe; fourteen years of teaching at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School in Red Deer; and a Nursing Program Instructor in Red Deer College. During her life, Benita served as a source of strength and guidance, touching the lives of countless individuals and families. She was recognized by students, neighbors, colleagues, friends, and family as a kind helper to the vulnerable, a "firm hand in times filled with questions", a "constant friend despite the distance", and a powerful positive influence on the careers, choices, and life trajectories of many. Benita fought a valiant six year battle against an aggressive form of cancer, beating the odds to such an extent that her case has been documented in Medical Journals.
