We are heartbroken to share the passing of our sweet dad William Earl Higgins at the age of 83. Pre-deceased by his loving wife of fifty-three years Carol and adored son Andrew. Survived by his two daughters Leslie and Jill, his four grandchildren Andie, Brendan, Madeline, and William, and his four sisters Betty, Ethel, Sheila, and Lynne.
Bill was born to Mabel and William Higgins in Edmonton, Alberta and grew up in Peace River playing hockey, baseball, and working on a river boat during the "best summer of his life." He surveyed all over Alberta with his father before moving to work as Superintendent of Water and Sewer for The City Of Red Deer. Bill was greatly admired and respected by those who worked for him and with him.
While working for the city, Bill met the love of his life Carol. Together they raised their two girls with much love and fun. Bill was an avid skier, spending many a day at Canyon Ski Hill with his family, and ski-patrolling by night. He was also an accomplished hunter, golfer, sailor, hockey player and jack of all trades. Bill was a longtime member of the Silver Selects Hockey team who made sure to include him in the postgame beers long after his playing days were over.
Bill was as involved as a grandparent can be, devoting much of his time to his grandchildren, who dubbed him the "GOAT," or greatest of all time.
Those who knew Bill will forever remember his kind heart, his quiet easy-going nature, and his infectious belly-laugh. He will be greatly missed.
Leslie and Jill would like to thank the loving staff at Aspen Ridge and Dr. Odendaal for their care and compassion.
