Blanche MITCHELL

MITCHELL Blanche Mitchell (nee Greenwood) of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Nursing Home on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the age of 93 years. Blanche was born at Elnora and raised in the Trenville district. She took her schooling at Lousana and Elnora and was united in marriage to Stanley Mitchell of Elnora in 1939. They farmed in the Howell's Lake and Pine Lake districts for a number of years. In her later years she took training at P.T.S (Michener Centre) and graduated in 1963 (when she was fifty years old) as a Mental Deficiency Nurse. She continued to work at Michener Centre until her retirement in 1978. She had a long and very active retirement, keeping busy with crocheting, ceramics and crafts of all types. Blanche was a former member of the Pine Lake W.I. and Howell's Lake Community Club. She was also Grand Chief of the Pythian Sisters for the Prairie Province (1967-1968). She loved her church and was very involved with St. Leonard's Anglican Church as well as the Holy Trinity Anglican Church at Pine Lake. She enjoyed helping friends and family and felt blessed that she had her health until about two years ago. Blanche will be lovingly remembered by three sons; Wayne (Bev) Mitchell, Lawrence (Frances) Mitchell and Derek Mitchell of Red Deer and his finance, Hanne Petersen of Victoria, one daughter, Morna Moore of Red Deer, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, William Greenwood of Lousana, one sister, Lottie (Ken) Archer of Nanaimo and Gy Sewiert (adopted Australian daughter) as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Mitchell, infant daughter, Sheryllynn Mitchell, one granddaughter, Leanne Mitchell, one brother, Robert Greenwood, one sister, Winnie Hartel and her parents, Hugh and Bertie Greenwood. Those wishing to pay their respects can do so during a time of visitation at the Red Deer Funeral Home (6150 - 67 Street) on Thursday, October 19, 2006 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Leonard's on the Hill Anglican Church (4241 - 44 Street) on Friday, October 20, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery with a small lunch at the Pine Lake Hub Community Centre.
