It is with great sadness Brett's family and friends mourn his passing following years of him battling addiction. Brett was born July 6, 1988 in Red Deer and grew up in Sylvan Lake. He loved to hunt, fish and camp with his family and friends. He attended H.J Cody High School in Sylvan Lake. As a youth he was an exceptional athlete and played basketball, lacrosse, soccer and football. He achieved his journeyman insulator ticket from NAIT in 2013. He worked as an industrial insulator with a number of companies locally and in the Fort McMurray area. Those who knew Brett found him to be caring, generous and a kind soul.
Always the joker, Brett's sense of humour and quiet manner will be missed by his parents Barry and Christina Lust of Sylvan Lake, his sister Roberta Lust of Calgary; his sister Jolene Lust of Whitehorse, Yukon; his grandmothers Marlene Landreth of Red Deer and Lorna Earl of Strathmore; uncle and aunt John and Andira Landreth of Penang, Malaysia; cousin Rama Landreth of Indonesia; uncle and aunt Harris and Susan Lust of Strathmore; cousins Deanna (Lust), Clarence, Sabrina, and Maria Kooistra of Strathmore; and Bonnie (Lust) and Emma Gilmore of Calgary; cousins Tracey, Debbie, and Denise Basaraba and Craig Lust of Toronto. He is predeceased by his grandfathers Bud Landreth and Emil Lust; aunt, Ruby Basaraba; cousin, Lisa Basaraba.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Simon House Recovery Centre, 5819 Bowness Road, N.W. Calgary Alberta T3B 0C5 to continue the hope for those still struggling with addictions.
Cremation has been entrusted to Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.
