Peter was born on October 5, 1920 at Carolside, Alberta and received his schooling at the Square Deal School. In 1942, he joined the army. While training in Calgary, that same year, Peter met Hazel Meers of Acadia Valley who was in Calgary taking her teacher training. Peter was sent overseas in 1942, stationed in England, serving in France and Belgium with the Ordinance Transport Corp. under Eisenhauer’s 21st Army. He returned to Canada aboard the Lady Nelson in 1945 and spent eight months in the Colonel Belcher Hospital in Calgary. Peter moved to Delburne that same year where he and his brother Jake built and operated the Texaco Highway Service. In the summer of 1946, Peter and Hazel were married. They had four children; Keith, Barry, JoAnne and Ron. Peter always loved and enjoyed people from far and wide; and if he didn’t know them already, he got to know them in five minutes. He enjoyed camping, gardening, trail rides, rodeos and playing horseshoes with his neighbours. Peter loved anything to do with horses and his German Shepherd dogs. Peter was a great family man, a respected neighbour and a trusted friend. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed his family immensely. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. Peter will be very deeply missed but lovingly remembered and forever cherished in the hearts of his family and dear friends. Peter leaves to mourn his loss, his loving wife Hazel of nearly sixty years, his children, Keith (Marlene) Bysterveld and Barry (Marjorie) Bysterveld, all of Delburne, Alberta, JoAnne Bysterveld (Raymond) of Sylvan Lake, Alberta and Ron (Teresa) Bysterveld, of Okotoks, Alberta, his grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica (Shane), Jocelyn (Bryce), Lindsay (Justan), Peter, Frances (Jason) and Whitney and his great grandchildren, Carter, Clancy, Porter, Jorja, Josie, Neko and Hayden.
