December 21, 1939 - June 22, 2022
It is with the utmost sadness we announce the sudden passing of Mrs. Jean Bower on Wednesday June 22, 2022 at the age of 82 years. Jean was born in Oldham, England on December 21, 1939, to Wilfred and Louie Kirk; she was the apple of her father's eye.
After primary schooling, Jean pursued Certification as a Registered Nurse and completed her midwife studies; wherein she then traveled to Canada (at 23 years old) to begin her Nursing Career at the Winnipeg University Hospital.
She would go on to meet Ronald Bower, and by September 1965, the two would be married. They lived in several different towns and cities, where the bank needed them most, with Jean working in various hospitals throughout Alberta.
Always giving of herself, Jean was active with Order of the Eastern Star, the Lions Club, the Shriners and volunteered for more than thirty-five years with the Golden Circle, as well. Jean was an avid square dancer and lit up the floor every time she danced. Jean always enjoyed hosting the Community Rummy Club game for her friends within the community and was fondly recalled by all who attended.
Jean is survived by her son, Kirk Bower, her daughter, Tara Horst (Leonard Horst) and her son, Craig Bower, her granddaughter, Brittany Maxwell (Josh Maxwell) and her grandson, Mark Horst, and her five great grandchildren, Skye Gratton, Jenifer Maxwell, Scarlett Maxwell, Alex Horst and Alasdair Maxwell.
She will also be sadly missed by her brother, Sidney Kirk of Oldham, England, as well as several nieces and nephews.
As per Jean's wishes, she will be flown home and laid to rest with her father, Wilfred in Chadderton Cemetery, Oldham, UK. Jean was predeceased by her husband of fifty-six years, Ronald William Bower 19 August 1938 - 17 May 2021.
For local friends and family, there will be a Memorial Celebration of Life gathering for Jean at the Golden Circle, 4620 - 47A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. for those who wish to share anecdotes and memories.
