HIGGINS, Carol (nee Streit)

Dec. 25, 1941 ~ May 22, 2017

It is with great sadness that the Higgins family announces the sudden passing of Carol Noel Higgins. Born in Stettler, Alberta on December 25, 1941, a "Christmas baby" to proud parents Bill and Gertrude Streit. Carol was welcomed into a loving family with brothers, Donny, Billy, Davie and Jerry and sister, Joan. In 1960 Carol moved to Red Deer where she met the love of her life Bill Higgins while working at City Hall. They married on November 8, 1963 and recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary.

Throughout her life Carol was very active in her community. She was a long time member of the Kinnette Club and served as its president, and gave her time to many other charitable endeavours such as the Victorian Order of Nurses, Meals on Wheels and The Red Deer Food Bank.

Carol was an avid swimmer, skier, and gardener. She was a friend to all who knew her. Carol was well known for her good nature, her kindness and generosity, as well as her sense of humour, political leanings, kitchen prowess and garage sale expertise!

Carol is survived by her loving husband Bill Higgins, her daughters, Leslie Burke and Jill Higgins Radomsky, and her adoring grandchildren, Andie and Brendan Burke, and Madeline "Noel" and William Radomsky. She is predeceased by her sons Scott and Andy, now reunited.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring and dedicated nurses, doctors and staff at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, as well as longtime family physician Dr. Ray Hulyk and friend Dr. Bob Boyd.

Should you choose, memorial donations in keeping with Carol's community spirit can be made to the Red Deer Meals on Wheels.

A celebration of Carol's life will be announced by the family.

"One life lived, many lives touched"
