CATE Mrs. Ellen Cate of Red Deer, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Nursing Home on Sunday, May 14, 2006 at the age of 96 years. Ellen was born on January 24, 1910 at Strasbourg, Saskatchewan. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and a very good friend. Ellen leaves to mourn her passing, a brother, Art (Shirley) Thomas of Richmond, B.C., a sister, Nel Root of Port Stanley, Ontario, two daughters; Elaine (Gordon) Chiles of Red Deer and Maida (Ron) den Oudsten of Calgary, and a son-in-law, Bill Loblaw of Leduc. Her memory will also be treasured by her grandchildren; Jim (Diane) Chiles of Red Deer, Norma (Eric) Guimond of Red Deer, Bruce (Trish) Chiles of Lacombe, Doreen Chiles of Red Deer, Ross (Carrie) Chiles of Taipei, Taiwan, Karen Woodall of Leduc, Maureen (Randy) Mitton of Leduc, Donna (Mark) Sturgeon of Calgary, Tracey (Greg) Wolf of Wembley, Alberta and Richard (Jessika) Voorhees of Calgary, her thirty-one great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren. Ellen was predeceased by second husband, John Cate and her two daughters; Beatrice Loblaw and Lois Allen both of Calgary and her grandson-in-law, Russell Woodall of Leduc. Ellen was born and raised in Saskatchewan. She moved with her family to Calgary in 1943. In 1995 she moved to Red Deer where she lived with daughter, Elaine, for two years. In 1997 she moved into the Red Deer Nursing Home. Due to Polio, she was confined to a wheelchair for seventy-six years of her life. She was an inspiration to us all. She never complained and was a joy to everyone around her. She will be truly missed. Funeral Services will be held at the Red Deer Funeral Home (6150 – 67 Street) on Thursday, May 18, 2006. A time of Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and the Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a luncheon to follow. Interment will be on Friday, May 19, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Queen’s Park Cemetery in Calgary. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting www.reddeerfuneralhome.com.
