Catherine (Kay) Agnes Johanson passed away peacefully on July 29, 2024 in Calgary Alberta. Kay was born in the Horn Hill District in central Alberta on March 21,1937 to James and Agnes Richards, with siblings William (Donna) Richards and Anne (Daniel) Kern.

The Richards raised Ayrshire cattle and Kay travelled across Canada showing cattle when she was young. Kay worked as a secretary in Red Deer and Calgary prior to her marriage. Kay married Hartley Johanson of the Burnt Lake district on June 28, 1958. After a short time living in Calgary, they moved to a farm in the Burnt Lake District.

They raised 4 children, Heather (Kelly Sereda), Melvin (Lorie), Linda, and Terry (Johanne) and 11 grandchildren, Christine, Nicole and John Sereda; Trevor (Brittany) and Jason (Nicole) Johanson; Claire (deceased), Clark, Graeme, Nathaniel and Abigail Jones; Erik (Kristine) Johanson and great grandson Mitchell Johanson.

Kay was very active in the Women's Institute and many other groups in Burnt Lake and Sylvan Lake. When a helping hand was needed, Mom was always there.

Kay was known for her needlework. She received an award for the monies raised for charity by auctioning off her handiwork. All her children, grandchildren and many other family and friends are the recipients of pictures and her specialty, Christmas stockings.

A celebration of Kay's life for family and friends will be held September 21, 1:00 - 4:00 at the Sylvan Lake Legion Hall, 4916-50 Ave. Sylvan Lake.
