March 24, 1944 - April 23, 2019
On April 23, 2019 at the age of 75 Charlotte-Ann Irene Hughes passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice surrounded by her family. She remained at home until the evening before she passed away. Charlotte (Char) was born in Prince Rupert, BC March 24, 1944 to Leonard and Mildred. Char spent her childhood in Dawson City, Yukon. After graduating high school she attended Sprott-Shaw Community College in Vancouver and upon finishing her schooling she went back to the Yukon and worked for the Supreme Court Registry.
In 1975 Char made the move to Red Deer, AB where she worked at Red Deer College. It was during an evening out at the Elks club that she met her dance partner for life, Wayne Hughes. Char, Wayne and their blended family remained in Red Deer where they were very involved with the community (Royal Purple, Red Hat Society, Curling Club, Tennis club...) and started a successful company, Red-Alta Utility Location Ltd. After semi retiring Char and Wayne loved spending their winters at the Resort in Mesa, Arizona. In Mesa Char discovered her love of tennis, pickle ball and happy hours. At home they hosted many years of campouts with great friends. For the last few years Chars new found passion was quilting. She gifted her family with her beautiful quilts that will be passed down for generations to come. Char was very grateful for all the friendships in her life and talked of her 'sisters' often.
Char is survived by her loving husband, of 41 years, Wayne; her children Vern (Wendy), Sandi, Glenn (Jody); her little Ducks: Aly, Kristen (Jamie), Brent (Destiny), Kaitlyn (Josh), Tyler and Olivia; her step-sons: Tim (Tamara), Terry and their children: Kyle, Nicole, Braeden, Taylor (Lash) and Baylee; her brother Pat (Sharon), brother in-law Ron (Sharon) and numerous nieces and nephews; her great grandchildren: Dekklan (his dad Jordan) and little Austin.
Char was predeceased by her first born son Gordon Patrick, her Parents Mildred, Leonard, her step-father Walter, her brothers Len (Sonny) and Gordon, her sister in-law Judy, her in-laws Ray and Mae.
Funeral services for Char will be held April 29, 2019 at 11 am at Gaetz United Church (4758-50th street Red Deer, AB).
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a donation made in Chars name to either the Red Deer Hospice Society (99 Arnot Ave Red Deer, AB T4R 3S6) or to the Canadian Cancer Society
