Christine
Mrs. Christine Zelem, of Blackfalds, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Sunday, January 15, 2012, surrounded by loved ones. Christine was born near the end of the war, on April 30, 1945 in German occupied Poland. As a child her family moved from Poland to Sydney, Australia and then to Calgary in 1954. It was in Calgary she met William "Bill" Zelem and the two were married in 1971. The couple moved to Blackfalds, where they raised their two children, Aaron and Andrea. Christine will be fondly remembered by her daughter, Andrea and son-in-law, Shane Hanson of Blackfalds, her brother, Frank and sister-in-law, Patricia Prystupa of Calgary. She is also survived by sister-in-law Ann Zelem, her aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Christine was predeceased by her parents Peter and Victoria (Brzozowski) Prystupa, son Aaron, husband Bill and brother-in-law John Zelem. A Prayer Service will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel 4820-45 Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 5128-53 Street, Lacombe, Alberta on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Christine's honour may be made directly to Alley Cats Rescue Society, 89 Downing Close, Red Deer, Alberta, T4R 3K1 or online at
