It is with overwhelming sadness that we had to say goodbye to our fun-loving father, husband, brother, friend and partner, Chris Mitchell. Chris passed away peacefully the morning of July 10 with his family by his side at the Red Deer Hospice after a brief battle with cancer.
Chris grew up in Eastview, Red Deer where he enjoyed making his lifelong friends, cycling around the city, and playing hockey. Chris's first job was at Dairy Queen. Over the years, working at the Dairy Queen in Red Deer, he built a special relationship with Gord Hamill and his family, creating a passion for the brand. Chris and his wife, Pam met via DQ and married in 1989. Chris and Pam own their 1st Dairy Queen in Red Deer in 1990 while living in Innisfail. In 1994, they relocated to Sylvan Lake to open their current Dairy Queen. That is where they set roots and raised their two wonderful children, Janelle and Jayden.
Chris enjoyed being involved with the community and especially loved being a mentor to many. Chris would never miss a day to spend time with his children and was involved in everything they did. He was an amazing family man and it made him so proud when his children came home to take over the operations of the family business, Dairy Queen.
Chris and Pam enjoyed volunteering in the community over the years. Chris was always the first to lend a hand or an ear and loved telling a joke or two. Laughter was his thing and he wanted everyone to have that in their lives. The two of them enjoyed travelling the world and exploring new places, whether it was a DQ Convention, family holiday or just time away.
Chris had touched many in the community in so many ways. Chris will always be known as an amazing soul, one of a kind, trusted and respectful friend, a shining star and these are just a few examples of what a wonderful man he was.
Chris is survived by his wife, Pam, and his two children, Janelle (Chris) and Jayden. His brother, Scott Mitchell (Christine) and their children, Amanda and Steven. His sister, Mary Ellen Mitchell. His stepfather, Jack Aschenberger; half sister, Cecilia (Wolfie) Aschenberger and many other relatives.
Chris was predeceased by his mother, Jeanne Aschenberger and father, Keith Mitchell.
A celebration of life for Chris will be done privately, at a later date with his close friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alberta Children's Hospital, Stollery Children's Hospital, Central Alberta Cancer Center, or the Red Deer Hospice Society.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to all the doctors and nurses at the Central Alberta Cancer Center and the Red Deer Hospice, especially Sam, Riza and Trish. You are amazing angels!
