On May 8, Clarence passed away peacefully at home, at age 94 and just two days short of his 62nd wedding anniversary.
He was predeceased by his parents, David and Anna (Decker) Schmidt, and three siblings, Agnes Wilkening, John Schmidt and Norma Wilkening. Clarence will be lovingly remembered by the love of his life Norma Schmidt (nee Jones); daughter Mary-Ann Fulks (nee Schmidt) (Jay), granddaughters Alexis Fulks (Scott) and Jori Fulks; daughter Maureen Latreille (nee Schmidt) (Albert) and grandson Leslie Martel (Jeanette) and great grandchildren Marcus, Carson and Brooklyn; as well as surviving siblings Irene Lloyd and Gordon (and Helen) Schmidt, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Clarence was a successful business man with his own company (C.L. Schmidt Distributors) and at one point ran a total of four of his own businesses. Retirement did not sit well with him so he later obtained his real estate licence and worked as a realtor. When he finally retired for good, he and Norma then spent many winters in their home in the Palm Springs area where they hold many cherished memories of time with their friends and with park activities. They enjoyed many trips around the globe and spoke particularly fondly of their time spent in Hawaii, and of their trips to Israel and to Scotland in 1974 with the Red Deer Royals Band, in which both daughters were a part. Clarence loved to play Cribbage and enjoyed watching the Blue Jays.
Given the COVID 19 pandemic, an open memorial service is not possible at this time. There will be an online option available. If possible we will hold a memorial for a larger gathering at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made online to Crossroads Church Cares Initiative. https://www.crossroadschurch.ca/Giving (Specify designation to Crossroads Cares Initiative).
