Clarence SHUELL

SHUELL Clarence Edward Clarence Shuell of Sylvan Lake passed away on July 4, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Clarence was born on February 3, 1923 at Alix, Alberta to Edward and Ruth Shuell. As a young child, he spent time with his grandmother Catherine Shuell and his uncle Phillip. He started school speaking Danish. He moved to Rocky Mountain House with his parents where he attended school. Clarence joined the Canadian Army during WWII and was assigned to mine coal in Nordegg. While at Nordegg he was also an outfitter, enjoying his horses and the backcountry. He met and married Louise Weyts at Nordegg on December 23, 1950. When the mine closed, he left Nordegg and within a few years became a truck driver. In 1960, they moved to Sylvan Lake and drove truck in Alberta, Canada and the U.S.A. for many years. When Clarence retired from trucking he became a night guard for the Sylvan Lake Detachment of the R.C.M.P. He enjoyed going for coffee with the guys after his retirement and had a great recall of people's faces and names. Clarence is survived by his loving wife Louise, his son Darrell, his sisters Catherine May, Hilda Salmon, his sister-in-law Gladys, his brother and sisters-in-law Carmella Weyts, Betty Weyts, Joseph Weyts, Laura McGowan, and Joan Watson, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Clarence's Life will be held at the Chapel of the Rocky Funeral Home, 4804 48 Street, Rocky Mountain House on Tuesday, July 8 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Ron Tiessen officiating. Cremation entrusted to the Rocky Mountain Crematorium. Inurnment will follow in the Nordegg Cemetery.
