Clifford CUMMINS

December 1, 2008

CUMMINS Clifford Alexander Cummins of Innisfail passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2008 at the age of 83 years. Cliff was born April 3, 1925 to Seth and Vera Cummins and was raised in the May City area. He attended May City School for Grades 1-9 and completed his high school at Wimborne and Olds. Cliff enlisted in the Royal Engineers in 1944 at the age of 19 for service in WWII. Prior to his deployment the war in Europe ended and he was subsequently trained for the war in the Pacific. That war ended prior to deployment and he was eventually discharged in 1946. He later married his "date" from his discharge party, Bessie M. Cook in 1947. Cliff received his teaching degree from the University of Alberta. He taught school in Tilly, Bow Island, Foremost, Innisfail and Sylvan Lake, retiring in 1976. In retirement Cliff was a very active Elks member, attending meetings in Olds weekly and working his way to the top to become the Grand Exalted Ruler of Alberta. He also liked working on the land with his cousin Earl. Dad was a consultant/labourer in his son's building projects. Along with this quiet retirement he found time for his loving family, travelling with Grant and Aggie and some Arizona winters. To add to their quiet retirement they enjoyed their recreational properties in the Okanagan and Gull Lake. Cliff was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years Bessie in March 2008; brother Glen Cummins; parents Seth and Vera Cummins, Rhoda Havill, Rowena Want and Gerald and Carmen Cook. Cliff is survived by his sons Stan (Janice) and Brian (Bonnie); grandchildren Patti (Colin), Lane (Katherina), Jill (Darwin), Amy (Troy) and 8 precious great grandchildren. Also left to mourn are Norman & Anne Cummins, Grant & Aggie Cummins, Kay Cummins, George Havill, Leonard Want and numerous loving nieces and nephews. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to the Innisfail Rosefield Centre or to the Innisfail United Church or to the charity of one's choice.
