Clifford Dennis (Denny) Wenger of Olds passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1st, 2018 at the age of 75 years. Denny was born on March 21st, 1943 in Innisfail. He lived and worked the majority of his life in Olds with three short moves to Los Angeles, California. Growing up he worked the family farm and rode a horse to school.
In 1959, he worked at the Esso on highway 2 in Olds where he became lifelong friends with future brother-in-law Ken Bauman. He later became a meatcutter working in Gelsinger Meats in Los Angeles and the Olds IGA.
Denny married his first wife, Margaret Anne Elliott in 1966. They lived in Olds, Three Hills, then Red Deer, having one of their 3 daughters in each of these towns. As the girls grew, every summer was spent at Pine Lake making memories with good friends like the Scheurers. Shortly after his divorce in 1982, Denny moved back to Olds and opened Denny's Meat Market where he met, fell in love with and married Donna Lea Fulton, also joining this union were his two new sons, Eric and Arne. Denny & Donna ran the meat shop together for many years before her passing in 2008. When not in the shop, they enjoyed spending time at their acreage where they gardened and looked after their many animals. They also loved their weekend fishing trips, playing cards with friends & family, and competing with each other over a crib board.
Denny was a long-time member of the Olds Lions Club and made many friends over the years drawing people to him with his sense of humour and his love of life.
He will be sadly missed and forever remembered. Denny is survived by his 5 children daughters Pam (Steve) MacKay of Red Deer, Lori Wenger (Rick Bruce) of Red Deer, Tara (Dan) Caissie of Olds; sons Eric (Jan) Fulton of Dawson Creek, Arne (One) Fulton of Calgary; 11 grandchildren Jennifer, Nicholas, Megan, Brendan, Devon, Derek, Harley, Savanah, TJ, Rylan, and Stevie Rae; sisters Terry (Ken) Bauman of Olds, Cindy (Kelly) Hays of Olds; brother Ed Wenger of Salt Spring Island, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Denny was predeceased by his wife, Donna; sister-in-law Carol, niece Tanya and parents Cliff and Elsie Wenger.
A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Friday July 6, 2018 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #105, Olds.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Children's Hospital.
