GERTRUDE COX 1922 - 2009 Gertie Cox, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grand- mother passed away in Calgary, Alberta on May 14, 2009, at the age of 86 surrounded by loving family members after a few years of failing health. Gertie was born and raised in the Stettler, Alberta area, attended the rural schools of Stewartwynn and Silver Prairie schools and began her career as a short-order cook at the tender age of 13 years under the guidance of Mrs. Sherman Judd. Gertie worked for various restaurants in Stettler for over 40 years, such as the White Lunch, The Royal Cafe, Stettler Hotel Cafe, The Corner Restaurant, Grandview Rest- aurant and was noted for her delicious meals. Gertie was predeceased by her husband, Jim Cox of Stettler in 1976. She is survived by Harvey and Kathy Cox of Calgary, Linda Cox of Calgary, Robert and Carolyn Cox of Coronation; ten grand children: Steven Cox of Cloverdale BC, Stuart Cox of Airdrie, Kevin Cox of Rossland BC, Marcia Panei of Calgary, Valerie Stevenson of Bermuda, Jeff Cox of Calgary, and Christopher Cox of Edmonton; Lara Cox of Calgary, Davis Cox & Carmen Cox of Stettler. Gertie also is survived by 13 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Evelyn Dyck of Ponoka, a brother Albert Kruse of Stettler, sister-in-law Gerry Kruse of Barrhead, AB. Gertie was very appreciative of the compassionate care provided by the staff of Calgary EMS, Rockyview and Foothills hospitals and friendly staff at Scenic Acres Retirement Residence. A memorial service was held at the Brennen Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Ross Helgeton officiating. A reception and Fellowship followed. at the Brennen Funeral Home Reception area.
