CUMMERFORD It is with great sadness that the family of John Patrick "Jack" Cummerford announce his passing after a brief illness on Monday, July 28, 2008, at the age of 65 years. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his best friend and wife of 46 years, Merrilyn. Jack will also be fondly remembered by his sons, Bradley (Ashlea) and George (Jacquie). Papa will also be lovingly cherished by his grandchildren; Adam, Christy, Brooklyn, Presley, Randi and Owen. Jack will also be missed by his two sisters, Mary Ann (Arnie) Machan and Jean (Austin) Ward, all of Red Deer. Jack will also live on in the memory of many nieces, nephews and his many friends and acquaintances. Jack was predeceased by his son Brent in 1971, his father Pat in 1977, and mother Joyce in 1990. Jack was born in Red Deer and raised in Leslieville. In 1953 he moved to Red Deer with his family. He married his sweetheart Merrilyn in 1962 and worked with his father at Central Alberta Music Systems until 1976. He started Silver Coin Amusement which he ran until the late 1980's. Jack farmed in Poplar Ridge for 32 years until moving to Red Deer in 2005. He enjoyed the horse racing industry for many years and for the last five years Jack and Merrilyn have enjoyed the winters in Pheonix, AZ. The casino was a frequent stop on all his travels, where he enjoyed spending time with his many friends. Jack lived his life to the fullest and he was an extremely generous and kind man to all. Those wishing to pay their respects to Jack may do so on Thursday, July 31, 2008 from 6 p.m. till 9 p.m. at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 - 67A Street, Red Deer, AB. A Celebration of Jack's life will be held at CrossRoads Church, 38105 Range Road 275, Red Deer County, AB on Friday, August 1, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Central Alberta Cancer Centre, Bag 5030, Red Deer, AB T4N 6R2.
