In Loving Memory ~
Darien Owen Lloyd (Lucy), age 28, of Ponoka, left this world June 21, 2022 in a motor vehicle accident while working away on Cortes Island, BC . His memory is held in the hearts of his loving parents (Cody and Patricia), his little sister (Sydney), his adoring girlfriend (Corey Shimwell), grandparents (Chuck/Delrose Burns, Sharon Boddy/Dave Anderson, Joy Johnson) and all of the people who had the privilege of knowing this caring and lively young man. He was predeceased by his Grandfather Wayne Lloyd, with whom he was very close, in 2010.
Darien was born May 2, 1994 in Red Deer, Alberta. From a young age he excelled in sports including hockey, snowmobiling, motocross, skiing, scuba diving, along with pretty much everything he attempted. He gravitated to those who would challenge him to really live and would spend a majority of his time helping out anyone in need of an extra set of hands-even though he was down one digit.
After spending his youngest years in Blackfalds and Ponoka, Alberta, he left with his family in 2005 to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia for a new adventure. Darien remained in the Middle East until 2008 but before heading back to Canada, he had the opportunity to travel to countries such as the USA, Kenya, Bahrain, UAE, UK, Netherlands, and Germany.
Darien followed proudly in the footsteps of his father, Cody, and worked in the oil field for several years. He transitioned to working with WCI where he worked as a foreman quickly earning the respect of his crew. His last hitch took him to Cortes Island, British Columbia which has a population of about 700. Every resident on the island came to know him as 'Redbeard'-- a nod to his glorious red Viking beard he cared for so much.
Darien was a lover and a fighter in its purest form. He was fierce in conflict, thrived in chaos, and appreciated tough love, but when surrounded by friends and family he was loving and tender. At any given chance he did what he could to put a smile on every face and to throw people into fits of roaring laughter. When he was not floating a river or dirt biking, he was planning his next move to set himself for the next big thing. He provided support to every person he knew and would stop at nothing to ensure the safety and comfort of his friends and family.
