MORRISON, Darlene I.

1934 - 2016


It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Darlene Morrison, a resident of Points West Living, Red Deer, on the evening of December 3, 2016. Darlene was born on her grandfathers farm in Daylesford, SK, in 1934 to Lois and Stanley Duke. She was raised on the family farm and moved with her family to Humboldt, SK. in her teenage years. There she finished her schooling and took her first job. She later managed Sears's offices in Hanna, AB and Yorkton, SK before returning home to Humboldt and accepting a job with Bowman Brothers (now Acklands) in the spring of 1954. It was there that she met the love of her life Neil Morrison who she married June 30, 1956, recently celebrating 60 years of marriage. Together they raised three children, son Darwin and daughters Dawn and Wanda. Over the years they lived in six different locations, finally settling in Red Deer in 1982. In each location Darlene worked as a secretary for many firms. She retired in 1997 from her own household cleaning business. For many years Darlene and Neil spent their winters in Mazatlan, Mexico. Darlene leaves to mourn her loss, her husband Neil; son Darwin (Helen); daughters Dawn (Daniel) and Wanda (Roman); eight grandchildren who she was so proud of, Neil, Becky, Layne, Tegan, Kyle, Breanne, Reid and Jordan. She was blessed with 6 great grandchildren: Ryden, Blake, Kaleb, Kinlee, Finlay and Jetlan. Also to cherish her memory are her brother Alvin (Gladys); sisters Estelle, Gail (Richard), Muriel (Ron), Karen; sisters in law, Joan, Cheryl Duke and Evelyn Morrison; brother in law, Peter (Kathy) and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, Lois and Stanley Duke; brothers, Lyle, Stanley and Dallas; sister in law, Melody Duke; brother in law Albert Morrison and her parents in law, Freda and Peter Morrison. To honor Darlene's last request, there will be no memorial or funeral service. She is to be cremated and her final resting place will be the Red Deer Cemetery. It was Darlene's request that friends and family stay in contact with her family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Darlene's name may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta, 10531 - Kingsway Ave, Edmonton AB T5H 4K1.
