MCNEIL David "Lloyd" 1922 - 2009 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, who passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre Friday, July 31, 2009 at the age of 86 years. Lloyd leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 58 years, Evelyn of Red Deer. Lloyd was born December 16, 1922 near Evarts, Alberta and was raised on the family farm in the Evarts district where he farmed and lived for almost 70 years. Lloyd spent two years studying at the Calgary Technical School and worked at several logging/sawmill camps in the lower foothills region, west of Rocky Mountain House. Lloyd married Evelyn Walker of Boyle, Alberta on March 31, 1951. During Lloyd's farming career his farm grew to three sections of land with a custom feed mill operation. He was a strong advocate for agriculture. Lloyd was active throughout his life with church and community service. His service included: Evarts, Benalto and Eckville Presbyterian Churches; Benalto Agricultural Society; United Grain Growers; the local telephone companies; and Eckville Hospital Board. Lloyd served as chairman of the Eckville Hospital Board for 28 years. After Lloyd and Evelyn moved to Red Deer in 1990 he pursued his loves of carpentry and antique machinery/equipment through involvement in the Central Alberta Woodworkers Guild and the Sunnybrook Farm Museum. Lloyd and Evelyn enjoyed traveling with their fifth-wheel trailer; several bus tours in the United States and Canada; cruises to Alaska and Caribbean; and a month in Britain in 1994. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn; four children; Sylvia (Don Bolkowy), Red Deer; Marilyn (Myles Morin), Mississauga, Ontario; Ron (Joan), Lethbridge; Cheryl (Art Erickson), Fort McMurray; and five grandchildren: Nicole Bolkowy (Tony Pasich); Karl Erickson; Renee Bolkowy; Leah Erickson; and Alayna McNeil. He is also survived by his sister Ethel Thornton, Calgary and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Lloyd was predeceased by his sister Beatrice Philips in 2008. A celebration of Lloyd's life will be held on Friday, August 7 at 11 a.m. at the Living Stones Church, 2020 - 40th Ave., Red Deer with Reverend Andrew Burnand officiating. For those wishing to pay their respects, viewing will be held from 10:30 - 11 a.m. prior to the service.
