Deanna Fisher of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully in her home on May 27, surrounded by her family. Deanna was born in Innisfail, the youngest daughter of Agnes (Atkinson) and Bjarni Bjarnason. She grew up in Spruce View with her parents and sister Beverly; enjoying farm life and riding her horse whenever she could. She attended Hekla school with cousins and friends, in a community full of loving aunts and uncles, and caring neighbors. In 1958 she married Roger Fisher from Innisfail, and they started their family; raising three girls on their acreage in Lacombe.
Deanna loved to travel and spent her young adult life driving through Canada and the States with her family. In the late 80's she moved to Playa del Carmen, where she ran a restaurant with friends and began a life-long affinity for the Mexican people and culture. In the early 90's she moved up to Nunavut and Rankin Inlet, where she worked and fell in love with the far north. After settling back in Red Deer, she became the anchor for her family, with her door always open for a good visit, or a sleepover.
She has left behind friends who will miss her and many loving family members who adore her; her daughters, Kelle Simcoe, Tari Puffer, and Stephanie Orr and their families, her sister Beverly Rollans and family in Calgary, as well as Deanna's many cousins. Although she did not foresee leaving this life so early, she lived with the security of being reunited with friends and family in heaven. We treasure her colorful and adventurous spirit. Those who knew her were blessed. There are not enough words to describe her. Nothing written here can encompass her vitality, her endless creativity, and her optimism.
Funeral services for Deanna will be held Tuesday, June 4, at the Fensala Hall in Markerville, at 2 pm. Luncheon to follow.
