WOLNEY

Dennis Edward

April, 30, 1943 - May 31, 2014

Dennis Wolney, loved by many, passed away on May 31, 2014 at the age of 71 years. Dennis was born on April 30, 1943 in Eckville, Alberta to Teofil and Bernice Wolney. He grew up and attended school in Leslieville and David Thompson, and then began working on the service and drilling rigs. Later on, he was able to obtain employment as a field operator for Hudson Bay Oil and Gas, and eventually moved up to become a maintenance foreman. Dennis married Lorna Craig on August 18, 1962. They began their life together and raised their three children; Sherron, Mark, and Murray, where he was the helping hand that everyone could always count on. Dennis loved the outdoors and would spend numerous hours hunting, fishing, camping and quading. It was often his mission to pick the most challenging trail that would be sure to get even the most avid quaders stuck and covered in mud from head to toe. Dennis and Lorna were known to spend many evenings and weekends going on drives, both near and far, in search of a good cup of coffee with friends or a sale where he would be able to acquire vintage cast iron tractor seats, which he would then fix up to their former glory. Dennis also loved restoring everything he could get his hands on and would spend countless days in his workshop fixing up and tinkering with projects that others brought to him. He was known to enjoy hockey, ball, visiting and playing cards with friends and family. Dennis had a quick wit, a great sense of humor and was able to make most everyone around him smile and feel at ease. Dennis was predeceased by his son, Mark; his father, Teofil; and his brother, Barry. Dennis leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years, Lorna; his children, Sherron (Derek) Moos, and Murray (Keltie) Wolney; daughter in-law, Angela (Jim) Landin; mother, Bernice Wolney; brother, John (Jean) Wolney; sister in-law, Barb Wolney; sister, Marilyn (John) Baggs; eight grandchildren, Alysha (Keegan) Thompson, Brant (Kaylee) Moos, Caitlin Moos, Tyler, Spencer Wolney, Kolton Landin, Rex and Levi Wolney; and five great-grandchildren, Hayes, Ivy, Heidi, Cassimer, and Carson; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten. A celebration of Dennis' life will be at the Eckville Community Centre on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 11:00am. Interment will be at the Gilby Cemetery at a later date. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home. If desired, donations may be made to S.T.A.R.S. To honor Dennis' preference, we ask that the men not wear neck ties.
