DIETZ 1940 - 2008 Mrs. Una Rose Dietz of Red Deer passed away after a long battle with cancer at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre with her loving children by her side on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the age of 68 years. Una was born in Red Deer, Alberta on July 22, 1940. She was raised in the Valley Center District East of Red Deer and went to Valley Center School until grade 9, finishing high school at Lindsey Thurber. She worked at the PTS training school now the Michener Center for a couple years. Una married Fred Dietz on September 14, 1963 and lived in Red Deer until they moved to an acreage north of Blackfalds in 1968. Over the years she worked as an office clerk for her husband's business Dietz Industries Pipeline. Una spent many hours in her garden & yard. She had a real passion for animals and had lots around for us kids to grow up with. Una & Fred during the 80's and 90's, worked hard on their farm in the High Prairie area. Mom did lots of cooking as Fred was in the fields. In 1999, Una & Fred built their dream home in Red Deer at the Falls. Una loved to travel, she preferred driving, getting behind the wheel & driving her friends around to all the quaint boutiques in Central Alberta, she was nick named the "Social Butterfly" & even had a license plate saying so. Una volunteered at the Bible's for Mission Thrift Store for a few years. She loved the people she met and the work she did there. Una loved to be with family & friends and was always there to help the people around her. Una had developed Lymphoma Cancer in 2006 and has battled the disease since. This past spring she spent three months at the Cross Cancer Center going thru a Stem Cell Transplant, it was a struggle for her, she came home for six weeks before entering Red Deer Regional Hospital again. She beat the disease but her body was worn out and due to complications she was hospitalized for one month. With her children by her side, she peacefully died and is no longer suffering. She will be sadly missed and part of our hearts died that day also. Una was predeceased by her husband Fred in 2000 and continued to live in the Falls where she had developed great friendships with her neighbours. Una is survived by her two sons, Kevin Dietz (Chris Gulbraa) of Camrose, Alberta, Michael (Sharla) Dietz of Lacombe, Alberta, and one daughter Tracy (Darin) Dietz McKain of Lacombe, Alberta; five grandchildren, Megan Dietz, Ethan Dietz, Emma Dietz, Adelle Dietz and Nathan McKain and two great grandchildren, Mikada Dietz and Rashawn Cardinal. Una is also survived by her two brothers, Fred (Irene) Corrigan of Westlock, Alberta, Norman (Heather) Corrigan of Red Deer, Alberta, three sisters, Anne Acton of Bellvelle, Ontario, Lucielle Pennington of Stettler, Alberta and Shirley (Don) Glover of Red Deer, Alberta. She was also predeceased by her mother, father and three sisters and five brothers. A Memorial Service of Una's life will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church, 4718 Ross Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, September 15, 2008 at 1:00 pm.
