Donald Alexander GRAHAM

Donald Alexander Graham passed away on July 2, 2017 at the Palliative Care Unit of Red Deer Regional Hospital at the age of 90.

He was born in Lacombe, May 1, 1927, to Alex and Amy Graham of the Brookfield district. His father was a Scottish immigrant and his mother was the daughter of John and Jenny Morton, a pioneer Scottish family.

Growing up on the family farm in the Brookfield district, he attended the local school and the Red Deer High School and later graduated from Olds College in 1946 with a Diploma in Agriculture. In 1950, he married Colleen Mitchell of the Satinwood district. They raised three children and operated a mixed farm with his father and later a grain farm with his son, until retirement. His keen interest in supporting community and area endeavours led to his involvement with many organizations including farm groups, the Red Deer Mutual Telephone Co. Board, the Red Deer & District Hospital Board, the Red Deer Museum Board when the original museum building was opened, the Olds College Alumni Board, and 18 years with the Land Conservation and Reclamation Council of Alberta which then led to part time consulting work on oil well sites, pipelines and roadway construction for oil company,Vikor Resources. His favourite pastimes included old time dancing, Scottish Country Dancing and sing-alongs which benefited greatly from his fine singing voice. For the past 15 years, Don has lived at Revera at Aspen Ridge in Red Deer. His family very much appreciates the good care and friendships he enjoyed during his time there. Don is survived by his wife, Colleen, daughters Marlene and Audrey, son Ross (Jodi), grandchildren Kayla Marquis (Justin), Taylor and Spencer Graham, Dirk Snider (Kristi), and great-grandchildren Olivia & Adeline Marquis and Ava and Wyatt Snider. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Helen Steele and Heather Reekie. A Service of Remembrance will be held Wednesday, July 12, at 2:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Red Deer Hotel, Tuscany Room, 3310 – 50 Avenue, Red Deer Alberta, followed by a reception. Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the Lending Cupboard or a charity of one’s choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made by visiting
