Donald Douglas

Mar. 31, 1940 - Oct. 22, 2014

Don passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice after a brief fight with cancer at the age of 74. Don grew up in the Cremona area and joined the Navy in 1959 and served on the East coast allowing him to pursue his desire to see the world. He was a steam engineer and worked in various gas plants throughout Alberta. He owned and operated a truck wash in Rocky Mountain House with friend Cueball Morrison and finished up his work career as a pipeline inspector. Don loved sailing, camping, woodworking, reading, polishing his vehicles and hand feeding the chickadees. He had a great sense of humor and took pride in being a hardworking honest man where only a handshake was needed to complete a deal. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maxine, his children; Steven (Rebecca) Bird, Carmen (Raymond) Lee and Shelley OpdenDries (Kevin Eliuk), grandchildren; Spencer, Erika, Madison, Brie-Anne, Tanis, Katelyn, Danielle and Kevin, sisters; Marjorie (Donnie) McKinnon and Jeanette (Larry) Umbach as well as numerous in laws, nieces, nephews and friends. As per Don's request there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, AB, T4R 3S6 or www.reddeerhospice.com
