BURNS Doreen (Anderson) It is with sadness that the family of Doreen Burns announces her passing on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the age of 73 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Doreen is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Lynn (Greg), son, Jeffrey (Julie) both of Red Deer, AB, as well as her grandchildren Shane; Taylor, Courtney, Justine, Jayden; Kaysi, Sean, Brendan, Coltan, Grady. Doreen’s memory will also be cherished by her brother Don (Joyce) Moore of Calgary and sister Dianne (Ken) Schultz of Aldergrove, BC as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Doreen was predeceased by her parents, Eileen and Morley Moore; brother, Doug Moore and daughter, Lori Fagan. Doreen was born west of High River on the family farm at Tongue Creek on June 6, 1935. She graduated from the Calgary General Hospital Nursing Program in 1956. Doreen married Floyd Anderson in 1957 and had three children; Lori, Lynn and Jeff and moved to Red Deer in 1963. In Red Deer she worked on the Pediatric Ward at the Red Deer Hospital. In 1985 she helped reorganize and was the supervisor of an Infant Care Program for young mothers returning to High School; here she worked until the late 1990's. She served as President of the Red Deer Figure Skating Club and Treasurer of the Red Deer Minor Hockey Association. She thoroughly enjoyed time with family especially out at the Cabin at Sylvan Lake. Doreen truly loved babies and comforted many infants over the years singing "Away in the Manger" to put them to sleep. Funeral Services will be held at Gaetz Memorial United Church, 4758 Ross Street, Red Deer, AB on Monday, January 12th, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Brenda Kersell officiating.
