LATHAM

It is with great sadness that the family of Doreen Pearl Latham announce the passing of a wonderful daughter, mother, grandmother and friend. Doreen passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 23rd of 2014 at the age of 65, in Red Deer Regional Hospital after a very courageous life long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Doreen was born on December 5, 1948 in Red Deer, Alberta. She grew up on a farm in the Haynes area of Alberta. She attended the Satinwood School from grade 1-7, moving to Edmonton she completed her schooling at the Ross Shepherd School. Doreen worked as a Ward Aide in the Edmonton General Hospital. She married Donald Latham in August of 1969. They had two children, Cynthia and Troy. In March 1974, Doreen made her choice to serve God and have Jesus in her heart and life. She lived in a way that this choice was very evident each day. Doreen and her children moved from Edmonton in 1985 where she resided until May 3 of this year. Around 1989, Doreen lost her ability to walk. It never diminished her spirit or her love and care for her children. Although she faced many struggles physically, she continued to raise her children with a love for God. Doreen always loved having her children and grandchildren over to the house for their birthdays. She always found New Years with her family very special too. Doreen love to keep up on all her families' happenings and was always concerned for their well being. Always having cares and concern for her family was truly a part of her wonderful spirit. She would make daily calls, just to make sure everyone was okay. Doreen's spiritual life was so important to her. It was because of this she enjoyed fellowship with family and dear friends. It was these special moments that were precious to her in the last days of her life. She knew that the material things in life would pass away. We can all take comfort in the fact that Doreen is resting with her saviour and enjoying his great promise of salvation as is true in one of her favourite verses, Revelations 21:4. In her last days and hours, Doreen had a complete trust and resignation to the will of her Heavenly Father. Doreen was predeceased by her father Norman Bryan; grandparents William and Ida Bryan; and her grandparents Otis and Pearl Berryman, also father and mother in law Stan and Nora Latham. Doreen is survived by her loving mother Elsie Bryan, her daughter Cynthia (Shayne) Luchsinger, her son Troy Latham, and her grandchildren: Rebekah, Vinessa, Joel, and Emily. Her brother Dean (Jean) Bryan, their children: Leslie, Steven, Shane; and Lori (Gord) Schmidt along with their children: Allen (Terri) Schmidt; Vicky with her children: Brody and Kaiden. She also leaves to mourn five sisters in law, 5 brothers in law, many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was a loving daughter, mother and grandma and will be missed greatly by all her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at the Lacombe Memorial Centre on Friday August 01, 2014 at 1:00pm with Mr. Mike Moulson, Miss Jean Jefferson and Miss Sandra Epp officiating.
