1933 - 2009

Mrs. Doris Louise Reid (nee: Murray) of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the age of 76 years. Doris was born on April 10, 1933 in Consort, Alberta. Her grade 1 to 12 education was completed in Edmonton and then on to McTavish Business College. She was also a professional dance teacher, with qualifications in Ballroom and Latin with the Canadian Dance Teacher's Association, training in Montreal, Victoria and Calgary. Her career with Safeway in Edmonton and Calgary stretched over 29 years. Doris retired in 1993 at the age of 60 years. She worked part time for Calgary Parks and Recreation Department as a dance teacher in Ballroom, Latin, Country & Western and as assistant dance supervisor for 19 years. She retired from teaching in 1999. Doris was community minded and a member of many clubs; she founded the Calgary chapter of the M. I. Hummel Club in 1982 and was a past member of Evergreen Outdoor Club, Skrastins Hiking Club, Dots & Dashers Square Dance Club and the Red Hat Society. Her hobbies were Hummel collecting, hiking, cross country skiing, dancing, baking, card making and papertole. Doris is survived by her husband, Stuart, her sister, Grace Park, her three sons, Murray, David and Ian (Heather), her two daughters, Barbara Reid (Mike Rowland) and Nancy (Tim Vruwink), her grandchildren, Lauren Reid (Holly Clark), Amanda Reid, Sara Reid, Jason Reid, Troy Nielsen, Rita Vruwink, Jennifer (Alex) Viviani (nee: Vruwink) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Alex and Donald Murray, sisters Marion Simons, Lillian McCully.
