February 14, 2007

DORLAND 1930 - 2007 Ivie Elida Dorland of Red Deer, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at the age of 76 years. Ivie was born on September 24, 1930 at Connor Creek, Alberta, the second of five siblings born to Dolphin and Frieda Gabrielson. Until her marriage to Norman Dorland, she lived in the Mayerthorpe, Alberta area. It was in Mayerthorpe that she attended school and then went on to become a Dental Assistant. During the first years of her marriage she and her husband lived in many locations throughout Western Canada following her husband’s work in the Oil Industry. During that time, she had two children, Kent Dorland and Rowland Dale "Punch" Dorland. They eventually settled at Alder Flats, Alberta for seven years, where she continued her work as a housewife and mother. In 1964, the family moved to Red Deer, where she lived until her passing. In Red Deer, she continued her work as a Dental Assistant and was involved with the Oilwives Organization and volunteering at Senior’s Lodges. Ivie loved to entertain and be involved with any celebration. Christmas was her favourite time of the year and she would spend many hours shopping for gifts and wrapping them in her own special way. She was a very good cook and seamstress and would love to prepare all sorts of exotic dishes. In her later years, she did a bit of traveling with friends and family to tropical destinations. Ivie loved animals and got great enjoyment and companionship from her dog "Buddy". Ivie is survived by her eldest son, Kent (Judy) of Red Deer and her grandsons, Christopher Dorland (Kristen Schaan) of Calgary, Alberta and Daniel Dorland (Anne Marie Ennis), also of Calgary. She is also survived by her brother, Eugene Gabrielson of Prince George, British Columbia, her sister, Audrey Gabrielson of San Francisco, California, her brother, Dolphin "Buzz" Gabrielson (Darlene) and her brother, Bradley Gabrielson, all of Red Deer, as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was very close to and will be sadly missed by her nephew, Brodi Gabrielson and her niece, Caitlin Gabrielson. Ivie was predeceased by her father, Dolphin Gabrielson in 1966, her mother, Frieda in 1995 and her youngest son, Rowland Dale "Punch" in 1972. A Public Memorial Service will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapel, 4820–45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation entrusted to the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
