June 6, 2019
With heavy hearts, we had to say goodbye to our Mom, Grandma, Aunt and Friend Dorothy on June 6, 2019. However, we are thankful that we knew this amazing woman and that she was such a big part of our lives for so long.
Dorothy was born in Red Deer, Alberta 93 years ago to Mary and Earl Dodds. She grew up in Red Deer, attending high school in Ontario and then the University of Alberta. She met the love of her life, Harry Hobbs, and was married in July, 1949. Dorothy and Harry enjoyed 63 years together as husband & wife, partners, friends and supporters of each other until Harry's passing in 2012.
Mom provided for the every need of her family, and was a wonderful mentor to her children, Barb & Harry. She was always on top of the trends in fashion, music and pretty well anything else you needed to know. She was an avid curler, bridge player, social golfer and a fan of any sports or activities involving her family. She was an active volunteer in Calgary and Edmonton, most notably with the Junior League. She loved spending summers at Sylvan Lake and many winters in Pauma Valley, California. Living in Calgary or Edmonton, and everywhere else she went, Mom easily made a wide circle of close friends.
Dorothy will be sorely missed, well remembered and celebrated by her children, Barb (Doug) Noble (Maxwell), and Harry (Ruth) Hobbs; grandchildren Mark (Jessica) Hobbs and Amanda (Jeff) Hobbs Mercer; great-grandchildren Beckett and Sutton Mercer; her sister in law Marilyn Hobbs; and nieces and nephews Anne Marie (James) Anderson, John Hobbs and Jim (Sue) Hobbs; as well as numerous grand and great- grand nieces and nephews. She is similarly remembered by Brian and Janis Noble, the Copot clan and Donna Hobbs. Her younger sister Betty predeceased Dorothy.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers to Dorothy, especially Luce Imperial and more recently Donna Ordillano, who made the last years of her life as good as they could be. This also was made possible by the invaluable help and counsel of Jane Kipp.
Thanks to the staff at University Hospital for their contributions to her care in her final days.
A Celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at 2 pm. on Friday, June 14, 2019, at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club, 9450 Groat Road NW, Edmonton.
