SMITHSON (Lembicz) Dorothy Marie May 19, 1919 - Feb. 18, 2009 Dorothy Marie (Dolly) Smithson was born to Harry and Jessie Churchill in Edmonton. She attended grade school in Fort Saskatchewan. In 1931. In 1931 she and her parents moved to the Eureka Valley district to farm. In 1936 she met the love of her life at a barn dance and she and Ted Lembicz Sr. were married on April 7, 1937. They farmed in the Joffree-Eureka Valley district. In 1938 her first son was born and they continued to farm with 3 more children being born before the family moved from the farm into Lacombe in 1950. Three more children were born in Lacombe to complete the family. In 1970 her husband of 33 years passed away from cancer, leaving her a widow with 3 young children to raise. In 1984 Dorothy married Randolph Smithson and moved to Rimbey. She and Randy resided there until Randy's passing in 1991. She then took up single residence in the Crestomere area with her daughter Betty Cutforth. She lived in her mobile home until she required supportive care and moved to the Eckville Manor in 2007. In 2008 she required continuous care moved to the Lacombe Extender Care until her passing. "Momsie" was a very crafty lady. She spent hours knitting, crocheting, making bead baskets or any other crafty thing she set her mind to. Even with failing sight, she continued to crochet afghans for family and friends until just a few months ago. She loved visitors and especially liked it when the grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit. One thing she missed very much in her later years was being able to go fishing. She loved to sit in the boat, or on the ice, waiting for them to bite. "Momsie" was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Jessie Churchill, her 2 brothers, William (Bill) Churchill and Harry Churchill, her first Love Theodore Lembicz Sr. and her friend and companion Randy Smithson. She was also predeceased by a son, James Allan Lembicz in 1993, grandson Darin Brook in 1977 and an infant son. "Momsie" leaves to mourn her step children Ted Smithson, Gladys Jorgenson, Ken Smithson, Ron Smithson, Lloyd Smithson and Hazel Smithson and numerous step grand children and great grandchildren. On the "Lembicz" family tree she leaves to mourn her children Ted (Corrine) Lembicz, Ron (Laverne) Lembicz, Marie Brook (Fred), Sharon Walker (John), Brian (Frieda) and Betty Cutforth (Charlie) as well as 15 grand children and 17 great grandchildren. "Momsie" with her positive, and sometimes controversial disposition combined with her generosity and willingness to succeed, has been an inspiration to all who got to know her. She loved life and all the life forms that surrounded her. She epitomized independence and resourcefulness was her strong feature. We will miss her. Services will be held from Wilson's Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe, AB. on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 1:00 PM. Inurnment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery Lacombe.
