Doug of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the age of 63 years.
Born to Dave and Olga Kolasa, Doug grew up in Red Deer, AB. After spending time in Edmonton, Norway, Spokane, and Seattle, Washington, he resettled to Calgary, AB, in 2000.
Doug graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) with a degree in Petroleum Geology, in 1979. Doug married Sharon Semeniuk on July 9, 1983, in Anchorage, Alaska.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Calgary Snowmobile Club, as well as many softball and curling teams. Doug enjoyed lounging in the sun with his favourite beverage, he loved cheering on his Calgary Flames, Calvary FC, and Formula 1 teams, and he had a passion for fishing and snowmobiling. Doug's most memorable vacation was when he and Sharon toured the Castles of Scotland.
Doug was always the first to offer his help to neighbours, friends, and family in times of need. Doug accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of his family. Doug's favourite way to greet friends and family, was to say, "Hey Kiddo". He will be most remembered for his wit, wisdom, and warm and welcoming heart.
Besides his loving wife, Doug is survived by his son, Brett Kolasa (Caitlin Sexton) of Calgary, AB, two brothers and sisters-in-law, David (Leeann) Kolasa of Red Deer, AB, and Richard (Shauna) Kolasa of Calgary, AB; as well as his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol (Andrew) Watson, of Red Deer, AB, and Lorie (Erik) Ashworth, of Calgary, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Doug was predeceased by his eldest sister, Lynn Clements, and father, Dave Kolasa.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church (6 McMillan Ave, Red Deer, AB T4N 5X8) on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Alto Reste Cemetery (26575 AB-11, Red Deer, AB).
