Douglas Wilfred Luke of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at Symphony Senior Living, Aspen Ridge, Red Deer, Alberta on December 11, 2014 at the age of 96 years. Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Doug moved from Biggar, Saskatchewan to Red Deer with his wife and two daughters in 1963 to work as the Station Agent for Canadian National Railways. Over the following 50 plus years, Doug was involved with several Service Groups and city-based committees including Kiwanis, the Hospital and Real Estate boards, and various charities. After his retirement from the CNR, he worked as a realtor in the City of Red Deer. His hobbies included music, dancing, curling, playing cards with friends and family. He helped establish and administer a realtors' slo-pitch league and was an active member of a participating team. Doug was known to his family, friends, and acquaintances as a personable, caring individual who was quick to smile and lend a helping hand. He was a loving and dedicated husband to his wife of 63 years, Doreen; a caring and supportive father to his daughters, Penny and Patricia; and a proud and encouraging grandfather and great-grandfather. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Penny Diane Sohar of Surrey, BC, Patricia May Publow of Cold Lake, AB; four grandchildren Erika Publow, Alexis Halenda, Brendan Sohar, Andrew Sohar and two great grandchildren, Quinn Halenda and Mila Halenda. Doug was predeceased by his wife, Doreen May Luke; parents Cecil and Margaret Luke; brother Delmer and sister Audrey. A Memorial Service to honor Doug's life will be held at Symphony Senior Living, Aspen Ridge (Social Room), 3100-22 Street, Red Deer, AB on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 202, 5913 - 50 Ave, Red Deer AB. T4N 4C4.
