TEN HOVE

Eb

April 5, 1931 - February 8, 2014

Eb Ten Hove of Lacombe passed away on Saturday, February 8th, 2014 after a lengthy, but courageous struggle with Multiple System Atrophy. His passing was peaceful as he was surrounded by family, and was grateful to remain at home in his last days. His faith in his Lord and Saviour never wavered as he modelled giving thanks in all circumstances. He was born in Lacombe and farmed in the Gull Lake area until his stroke in 1989. He enjoyed and took immense pride in this area of his life, earning the respect of everyone he worked with and creating cherished friendships with many. As his health and mobility declined, Mom and Dad enjoyed a new chapter in their lives together. They moved to several different homes in the rural area, settling in Lacombe in 2010. This allowed for more time to enjoy his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Eb redirected his farming passions into two new hobbies: lawn mowing and woodworking. On sunny afternoons he spent time riding the lawn mower around, often with a grandchild sitting proudly on his lap and smiling bravely as he let them steer. He was a very skilled craftsman, and the family has been blessed with many handmade treasures from him. As time went on, Eb spent many hours in his chair, overlooking the Kamps family working on their field, and enjoyed being driven through the farming area he knew so well. Eb's life was defined by his passions: faith, family, and farming. He was a charter member of the Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church and his faith in God remained strong even through his failing health. His family brought him great joy, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 yrs, Femmie (Vanden Brink), children; Herb and Julie Ten Hove, (Deanna and Everhard, Barton and Amanda, Clayton), Joyce and Ray Kooistra, (Chelsea and Eric, Brayden, Tanner), Cindi and Mike Berry, (Crystal), Bernie and Teresa Ten Hove, (Bowen and Rebekah, Travis, Brittany, Taylor), Edwin Ten Hove, (Shae-Lynn, Jacob), 8 great grandchildren, sister Betty and George Weenink, brother Dick and Erlyce Ten Hove, and brother-in law John Buit; his wife's 5 sisters, and 5 brothers and their families; and lifetime friend Fred Martena. Eb was predeceased by his infant daughter Ruby Joy (1960), his Dad Harm Jan (1976); his Mom Jelske (1989), sister Jean (2002) and the friend that he considered a son, John Vreugdenhil (2001). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12th at 7pm at Wilson's Funeral Chapel 6120 - Highway 2A, Lacombe, AB. The funeral service will be held at Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church on Thursday, February 13 at 2:00pm with interment to follow. Officiated by Pastor Neil deKoning.
