ARONITZ, Eddie

1931 - 2016

Eddie Aronitz passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital with his family at his side. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hazel, daughters, Brenda (Gord) and Marianne Schmidt (Michael), his son James (Rosemarie), and seven grandchildren; Bridger, Jaimie, Christopher, Stephan, Elise, Braeden and Nicole.

One of four children, Eddie was born in Vegreville on September 27, 1931 to Peter and Helen Aronitz. In his early 20's, while working as a carpenter in the Ponoka area, he met Hazel Jamieson of Orillia, Ontario. They were married in 1954 and settled in Red Deer. In 1958 Eddie joined the Red Deer Fire Department. After 30 years of service, he retired in 1988 as a Platoon Chief.

Eddie had a life-long passion for woodworking, wildlife and the outdoors (fishing and camping). In his younger years he was an avid recreational taxidermist. His extensive taxidermy collection was donated to the Ellis Bird Farm in Lacombe in 2010. In retirement, Eddie turned his attention to carving waterfowl decoys and birds, a hobby he enjoyed for over two decades.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation - www.rdrhfoundation.com. A memorial service is to be arranged in the spring of 2017. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
