Edna GRANT

July 31, 2009

GRANT Edna Caroline Grant (nee Loyek), 72, of Edmonton Alberta, passed away suddenly on July 1, 2009. At her request, no service will be held. Edna was born in Bluffton, Alberta. She graduated from Rimbey High School and received a diploma in Education from the University of Alberta. She was married to Donald Martin ("Bud") Grant in July, 1960. Edna enjoyed children, so teaching was an ideal vocation. She taught in Bentley, Lacombe, Forest Lawn and Red Deer. It was in Red Deer that she discovered her true teaching passion, devoting her time exclusively to Early Childhood Education. In later years she volunteered as a mentor in local schools, and spent as much time as possible doting on her grandchildren. Edna was also very active in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Red Deer. Edna is survived by her husband, Don; daughters and their spouses, Karene and Tony Di Francesco, and Kim and Neil Jobin; grandchildren Giordano and Chianno Di Francesco, Alexander, Mathew and Kate Jobin; her brother and his spouse Ernie and Dorothy Loyek. Edna was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Hilda (Krekoski) Loyek. Typical of her generous nature, Edna bequeathed her body to the Anatomical Gifts Program of the University of Alberta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
