WHITTEMORE, Edna May (nee Mckenzie) August 23, 1914- July 17, 2006 Edna May Whittemore (nee Mckenzie) passed away surrounded by her loving family at the age of 91 years at the Foothills Hospital. Edna was born in Stratford, Ontario, the youngest of six. Edna attended Stratford Normal School and received her teaching degree. Edna later graduated from Sarnia General Hospital in 1937 as a registered nurse. She married the love of her life Harry (who predeceased her in 1997) in 1938, whom she had dated since the age of sixteen. They had their son Tom, and later their daughter Norma in Ontario, then moved to Calgary in 1953, where they had their son Rick. Edna and her family made Calgary their home until Harry retired. Edna and Harry then retired to Pine Lake for twenty years, then moved back to Calgary in 1996 at Coach Hill Horizon Village. Edna is survived by her sons Tom and Rick, and her daughter Norma; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank the staff in Unit 81 at the Foothills Hospital for their special care. Donations in Edna's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (200-119 14 Street NW, Calgary AB T2N 1Z6). A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 21, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Leyden's Funeral Home, Chapel of Remembrance (17th Avenue & 2nd Street SW, Calgary) with reception to follow.
