April 4, 1935 - May 22, 2020
It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Edward Morgan Wise of Elk Point, Alberta on May 22, 2020 at the age of 85 years.
Ted was born on the homestead near Ferguson Flats near Elk Point on April 4, 1935. At a young age he and his family moved to BC and settled in Port Moody where he attended school. He often shared memories of his time growing up there such as school escapades, swimming in the river with friends and trips to the Cariboo region of BC to visit his brothers Jack and Bob. Ted also made many trips back to BC to fish with his brother Dave.
Ted joined the Royal Canadian Armed Forces at the young age of 17 and proudly served in various roles such as Munitions & Weapons Tech and Radar Tech which he really enjoyed. During his 25 year career he was stationed in Germany, Quebec, British Columbia, Manitoba and Penhold, Alberta where he finished his military career. Many stories have been told of Ted tormenting and teasing his sisters, Jean, Donna, Joyce and Marge while they were growing up but everyone knows that they actually toughened him up enough so he could pass basic training when he joined the military.
Ted's true passion was being in the great outdoors and fishing every chance he could get. Family vacations were typically centered around pickerel, trout, salmon or steelhead fishing while camped near lakes, rivers or the ocean. Ted was known as the strong silent type but was always playing practical jokes on friends and family with a grin on his face and a glint in his eye as he carried them out. When not fishing Ted also enjoyed deer & duck hunting, golfing and curling.
Ted is lovingly remembered by his son: Rick (Kelly) Wise of Calgary; daughter: Karen Moreland (Dave Gervais) of Cold Lake; former spouse of 36 years: Islay Wise of Red Deer; three grandchildren: Sari (Bryan) Jory of Cold Lake, Curtis Wise of Calgary, Tess Wise of Caroline; great granddaughter: Grace Jory; brother: Dave (Thelma) Dahlgren; four sisters: Marge (Don) Holt, Jean (Dan) Bach, Joyce (Gus) Anderson, Donna (Tom) Hancock; as well as numerous nieces & nephews. Edward will also be fondly remembered by Robbyn, Jarred and Tristan Gervais. Edward was predeceased by his parents Edward & Velma Wise; two brothers: Jack & Bob Dahlgren.
Ted's family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and residents of the Elk Point Heritage Lodge in Elk Point, for their outstanding kindness and care while he was a resident. Due to COVID there will not be a formal service at this time but a gathering to celebrate Ted's life will be held at a later date. If friends or family desire memorial tributes for Ted can be made to the Elk Point Heritage Lodge and to Ducks Unlimited. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Ted's obituary at www.mementofuneralchapel.com
