Edyth Marie Brouwer (Johnston) passed away peacefully at the age of 102 in the place she called home for the last eight years, Inglewood Revera retirement residence.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, George Brouwer, in 2015, and by her sisters Eileen Johnston and Ruth Robertson in recent years.
Edyth is survived by her five children, Barry (Carol), David (Laurel), Miriam Watson (Russ), Ann Venczel, and Elaine Yachney (Bob), and by eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Born in Toronto, Edyth grew up in Stratford, Ontario. She met the love of her life, George Brouwer, in Stratford in 1941. They were married in 1947 in Stratford, and they settled in Alberta, and raised their children on the family farm west of Blackfalds.
Edyth was a dedicated homemaker who quickly adapted to life in mid-century rural Alberta. Her family was always her first priority as she spent many hours a day doing the household chores and raising her children. Her book-keeping skills and business acumen were essential in making the farm a success.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff on the second floor of Inglewood Revera for the exceptional care that they gave to Edyth during her stay with them.
As sad as we are at her passing, we are grateful that we were blessed with her presence for so many years. She was a treasure, and she will be missed by us and her many friends.
A Public Funeral Service will be held on Saturday July 17, 2021 at 1 pm at the Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church.
