Elaine Patricia "Lanie"
Elaine Patricia "Lanie" Grant of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on June 6, 2012 at the age of 57 years. Lanie is lovingly remembered by her mother, Kathleen Grant; sisters, Sharon Grimshire of Red Deer and Carrie Grant of Calgary; nieces, Taryl Grimshire of Calgary and Tanya Grimshire (Aroop) of England; and by her great niece and nephew, Saige and Shalin Tanna. She is predeceased by her father, Patrick Grant. Our little angel was born on February 15, 1955 in Edmonton, AB and moved to Red Deer when she was 5 years old. Lanie attended Parkland School for 12 years and Cosmos for 5 years. She has lived in her group home, Parkland Class, for almost 20 years with her roomates, Doug and Kelly. Lanie loved music, dancing, Santa Claus, Christmas, birthday parties, shopping and eating out. She loved everyone and remembered their names. You would often see Lanie sitting in her chair, writing in her books with the TV on and playing her CD's. When she was younger, her best friend, Darlene, and she would play cards, talk and laugh. What a giggle… so infectious! Lanie touched many hearts. The staff at Duston House gave her 20 years of love and care. A big thank you to all of the staff at Parkland Class (our extended family). Thank you to Dr. Konynenbelt and to the staff on Unit 32 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. A Celebration of Lanie's life will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Relax Crew, 6332 Orr Drive, Red Deer, Alberta. Cremation entrusted to the Red Deer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lanie's honor may be made directly to Parkland School c/o Parkland Class, 6016 - 45 Avenue, Red Deer, AB. T4N 3M4.
