SWAIN, ELAINE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elaine Swain of Innisfail on April 17, 2005 at the Innisfail Health Care Centre. Elaine passed away peacefully after suffering a massive stroke on April 8, 2005. Elaine was born "Helena Marie Bertha Paschke" on March 7, 1923 in Grossnasin, Germany to Fred and Minna Paschke. She moved with her family to Canada in 1924. She grew up farming with her brother, sister and parents in the Stettler area. Elaine married John Swain in November 1945 and moved to the Cottonwood district west of Innisfail to farm and raise her family. During the years on the farm many of her neighbors became her lifelong friends. Elaine, affectionately known as Ma Swain, to the many people who knew and loved her, lived most of her life in the Innisfail area but had also worked for several years in Stettler before returning to Innisfail after retirement. Elaine was an active volunteer for the Food Bank, senior's bingo at Rosefield Centre, helping at Legion banquets when needed and as a member of the Board of Directors at the Group Home. Elaine is survived by her five children, Jack Swain (Karen) of Innisfail, Allan Swain (Linda) of Airdrie, Rosalie Ingham (Albert) of Robson, BC., Shirley Michiel of Innisfail and Gibson Swain (special friend Karla Huff) of Innisfail, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren Sister-in-law Leona Paschke and many relatives in the Stettler area. Ma also had a large extended family in the Innisfail area that she thought of as her own. She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Minna Paschke, Sister Elsie Paschke, Brother Willie Paschke, Daughter Marsha and Grandson Colin Swain. Elaine will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Innisfail Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Elaine's honour may be made to Innisfail Health Care Centre Palliative Care, Innisfail Health Care Centre or a Charity of the donor's choice. Cremation has taken place as per Elaine's wishes with interment to follow at a later date.
