Elden KAUN

KAUN Elden Arthur Elden Arthur Kaun passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the age of 85 years, with his loving family by his side. Elden's memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Violet; his family, Lorraine Jones of Penhold and her children, Lora (Bill) Lavoie, Aaron Jones and Lorraine's seven grandchildren; David and his wife, Susan of Penhold and their children, Dalton and Sabrina; Mark and his wife, Dianne of Penhold and their children, Luke, Madelyn and Tannis; Esther and her husband, Rick Mitchell of Calgary and their sons, Wilson and Tyson; and his aunt, Ruth Schoppe of Saskatoon. Elden was predeceased by one brother, Delbert and one sister, Esther Jaster. Elden was born in Middle Lake, Saskatchewan where he grew up alongside his future wife of almost 60 years. He and Violet moved to Penhold and started the family farm in 1950 which is known as Kaun's Seed Farm. Elden was awarded and recognized for his contributions to Canadian agriculture; Leader of the Horn Hill 4H Grain Club; President of the Alberta Branch - Canadian Seed Growers Association (CSGA) 1963 to 1965; Outstanding Service Award - CSGA 1969; President of the National Branch - CSGA 1973 to 1975; Robertson Associate Award 1975; Alberta Achievement Award of Excellence for Agriculture 1983; Founding Member of SECAN; Red Deer Chamber of Commerce Farm Family Award 1985. Life for Elden and Violet was filled with traveling the world both for pleasure and business which included an Alberta Trade Mission to the Pacific Rim in 1978 and a CEDA project in China in 1983. Church projects and community services were a big part of Elden's life. As a founding Member of the Trinity Lutheran Church he later served as President. Elden also participated on the board of the Westerner Exposition. Elden enjoyed working on and modifying equipment. In his retirement years he spent many hours designing and building inventions which were successfully patented. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Hulyk, Vanessa, Rosalyn, Shirley and Narrelle for all their help in the past few years. The front door was always open to family and friends. Elden was a family man who taught through examples of honesty, integrity and sharing. As a father he was most proud of his children and grandchildren. Blessed with a happy life, his wish to remain at home with Violet as long as possible was granted. A Celebration of Life Service for the late Elden Arthur Kaun will be held on Sunday, September 20th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 19 Selkirk Boulevard, Red Deer, AB, with Pastor Don Hennig and Pastor James Schuelke officiating. Family interment will take place at Horn Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #6, 5015 - 48 Street, Red Deer, AB or the charity of the donors choice.
