Eldridge HIRTLE

HIRTLE Eldridge (Al) Glendon Hirtle passed away at the Foothills Hospital (Calgary) on August 8, 2009 at the age of 76 years. Al was born in New Canada, NS on August 18, 1932. He started his working career in the lumber camps. He joined the air force at the age of 19 where he specialized as an airframe mechanic. He met the love of his life Barb, in Rivers, Manitoba where they both served. They married on December 2,1953. The following day he left for his posting to France where he spent the next year. After returning to Canada, Al and Barb transferred to Claresholm, AB where their children Susan and Daryll were born. The family transferred to Nova Scotia in 1958 where they spent the next 6 years. In 1964, Al retired from the forces and moved to Raven, AB where he spent the rest of his life farming and driving truck. He was well known in central Alberta as he delivered propane for many years. Al enjoyed volunteering in many different service clubs. He was active in the Raven community and spent more time as the president there than anyone. He held numerous positions in the Caroline Elks, the Royal Canadian Legion (Caroline #177), and Crime Watch. Al passed away after a short, valiant battle from the resulting complications of an aneurysm. Al is survived by a daughter Susan (John) Barker of Red Deer and their children Dylan (Christie), Beau and Regan; and a son Daryll (Pam) Hirtle of Raven. A memorial service will be held at the Spruce View Community Hall on Thursday August 13, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to STARS Air Ambulance or the ICU unit of the Peter Lougheed Hospital (Calgary).
