February 25, 1936 - December 30, 2019
Elie was born in Sylvan Lake to Arnold and Jessie Bolton. She was one of five children, Clarence, Charlie, Lorrine, Elinor and Eddy.
Elie was raised on the family farm in the Hespero district. In her early teens they moved to the west coast. While they were living out there, she worked in a large fish cannery. As time passed Elie followed the family back to Central Alberta. One of her jobs was as a cook in the bush camps, man could that girl cook. Sweets being her specialty, as of this amazing ability, she became known as the Pie Lady.
Elie raised six children in the Rocky area; Danny, Shaun (Jody), Darren (Charlene), Jeff (Tina), Rod (Dinara), Patricia (Chris); many grandkids; Karie, Jackie, Nicki, Brady, Spenser, Daniel, Nickolas, Steven, Kyler, Jessica, Donoven, Cayden, Tyler, Chase, Orchid, Justin, Devon, Travis, and Maddison as well as a handful of great grandchildren with more on the way.
Mom spent most of her adult life in the Rocky area, she loved the West Country. She was no stranger to hard work and in fact she owned her own chainsaw and would limb trees with it while she worked in the bush. In her later years she ran her own house cleaning business. Never giving up, Mom worked right up to the time she got sick at the age of 81 years.
Elies' door was always open to any and all and there was always a place at her table for a new found friend. Our Mom was not a flashy gal by any means, she lived a simple life. She got joy from the simple things, especially if it was good deal she found at a sale.
Mom was a kind and generous soul, never able to say no, especially when it came to her kids. Many times you would find yourself with a frozen pie or two under your arm as you left her home.
Once we found out Mom was sick, the process to get well again, just became another thing she had to get at and get done. And this little gal fought like a trooper. But it was not to be.
Mom stayed with Patty while she was in treatment, assuming the role as her daughter's youngest daughter. Once treatment was over Mom moved to the Eckville Manor: where she lived for the next eighteen months. In her new home she kept herself busy doing crafts, playing games, and hanging out with her new found friends especially George. Mom ended her journey at the Red Deer Hospice, where again here cheeky little grin won her a new and wonderful group of friends.
We all used to tease her about how demanding she was, always making sure she had her tea hot. Her response to our remarks were with a grin "Because I can"
The time that Elie spent at the Hospice was filled with lots of love and laughs from the many family and friends who stopped to visit.
The most amazing part of our mother's final months was watching her bloom into this beautiful, confident and comical sweetheart. Mom was surrounded by the most amazing group of people. Not just her family and friends but the care givers and staff of the Eckville Manor. They went above and beyond for her, which enabled her to stay in her suite as long as possible.
To the loving staff and care givers of the Red Deer Hospice; Elie loved each and every one of you so much. She was deeply thankful for how warm and gentle you were with her. She did feel bad about one thing though; she couldn't remember all your names. I told her not to worry about it and that it was more important that they remembered hers, and yes you did. You made the final weeks of Elies' life the best that they could have ever been. For that we will always love the lot of you, for who you are, and what you do. Thank you for caring for Mom so much.
We would also like to say thank you to all the family and friends who came to visit and tease our Mom (Especially you Nibs) she looked forward to seeing all of you especially the things you did to make her comfortable and pretty.
When the warn weather of spring returns, we would like to get together with you all for coffee and a snack, and celebrate Elies' life. Don't worry; we will let you know when and where.
Until then, we would just like to thank you all for loving Mom so much
