Elizabeth NELSON

NELSON Elizabeth (Elsie) Nelson, formerly of Bowden, Alberta, devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away July 24, 2008 in Camrose, Alberta at age 84. Elsie will be remembered with great love by her daughter, Wanda (Ken) Pederson of Onoway, AB; son, Wayne Nelson of Brisbane, Australia; granddaughters Krista Davis (Garth Horton) of Camrose and Bronte Nelson (Brisbane, Australia) and her much-loved great-grandson, Brennan Davis (Camrose). She also leaves to mourn one sister, Jenny Averill of Eckville, Alberta, many wonderful nieces and nephews and a host of life-time friends. Elsie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Fred; two brothers, Johnnie and Albert Sutherland and one sister, Angie Fox. Elsie was born in Alhambra, Alberta on March 11, 1924. She taught school at Arbutus, was officer-in-charge at the Rocky Mountain House weather office, town councilor and mayor of Bowden; she was a founding member of the Bowden Friendship Circle, active in the United Church, the Eastern Star and the Royal Canadian Legion. Elsie loved to travel and visited many countries. One of her fondest memories was shaking hands with Pope John-Paul II. Most recently Elsie was chairman of the Deer Meadows Residents' Association in Camrose. She was a life-long community activist with many accomplishments and awards achieved through her positive spirit, boundless energy and enthusiasm. She lived her life with passion and flair and she was a positive role model for all those who were fortunate to know her. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held in the common room (second floor) of Deer Meadows, 4215-55 St, Camrose on Friday, August 22 at 2:00 P.M. with Deaconess Signi Bruner officiating.
