The Reverend Doctor Frances Abbelinda ‘Fran’ Hare passed away peacefully at her home in Red Deer, Alberta, on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the age of 81 years. Born in Pembroke, Ontario, to Ellard and Pearl Green, Fran was the eldest of six children.

She attended Queen’s University to study theology, where she met William Hare, whom she later married. Fran’s journey led her into ministry, and she later moved to Alberta to teach theology at St. Stephen’s College. She ultimately returned to ministry at Gaetz Memorial United Church, where she made a profound impact through her pastoral care and outreach.

Fran’s love and devotion to others were evident in her daily life. She filled her days with service to friends, family, and community, participating in the Red Hatters, Tony Connelly Singers, the Bowden Prison Book Club, AOTS, and local events such as the farmers' market and meals out with friends.

Fran and Bill raised four children together in Alberta and shared a deep love of reading, learning, and laughter. Predeceased by her beloved husband, William Hare, Fran is survived by her five siblings: Marj Dudley, Bill Green (wife: Carla), Nan MacDougall (husband: Dave), Lorna Hyland, and Les Green (wife: Carolyn); and her four children: John Hare (wife: Karen), Lorna Idland (husband: Kevin), Dorothy Ludwig (husband: Cam), and Lynda Kiejko (husband: Kevin). She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Stacey Idland, Douglas Idland, Erden Ludwig, Emmet Ludwig, Olivia Kiejko, Abbelinda Ludwig, Faye Kiejko, and Logan Kiejko. Fran leaves behind a legacy of love, faithfulness, friendship, loyalty, and hope.

A Funeral Service will be held at Gaetz Memorial United Church, 4758 – 50 Street, Red Deer, Alberta, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed at www.youtube.com/@gaetzmemorialunitedchurch7965/streams or on YouTube by visiting Gaetz Memorial United Church and selecting the Live Window.
