ELM - CLARENCE LESLIE March 19, 1921 - July 2, 2009 Clarence Leslie Elm died peacefully in his sleep on July 2, 2009 at the Hanna Hospital, Hanna, Alberta at the age of 88 years. Clarence "Clancy" was born and raised in Hanna and was a lifetime resident. On March 21, 1942 he married Rachel Herron, the love of his life for more than 67 years. Clarence is survived by his loving wife, Rachel; son, Les (Joan) Elm of Red Deer, AB. and children Rick (Cheryl) Elm and Greg (Jennifer) Elm; son, Ron (Gail) Elm of Maple Ridge, B.C. and children Ryan (Anna-Rita) Elm and Adam Elm; daughter, Diane (Dennis) Heggie of Red Deer and children Andrea (John) Watkins and Bryce Heggie; daughter, Val (Richard) Fischbuch of Hanna, AB and children Jeanine Fischbuch and Corey Fischbuch; daughter-in-law, Margaret Elm of Calgary, AB. and children Steven Elm and Selina (Neal) Zaluski; as well as five great-grandchildren. Clarence is also survived by his sister, Clara Pernar of Nanaimo, B.C., sister-in-law, Jeanne Hutton of Hanna, AB. and sister-in-law, Mae Kober of Vancouver, B.C.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Clarence was predeceased by his son, Russ Elm; brother, Ellis Elm and sister, Irene Taylor. During WWII, Clarence served his country overseas as a member of the R.C.A.F. 410 Squadron from 1942 to 1945. Upon returning home from overseas, Clarence continued his career as a skilled and meticulous mechanic with A.A. Hutton and Sons for more than forty years until his retirement at the age sixty-five. After retirement, he devoted his many talents to woodworking skills and antique collections. Clarence enjoyed many years as an active member of the Hanna Flying Club. He was an active lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Hanna Branch No. 25. Clarence also enjoyed many happy times with his family and friends at the cabin at Rochan Sands Buffalo Lake, AB. Funeral Services were held at the Hanna First United Church on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. Interment followed at the Hanna Cemetery Veterans Field of Honour. Services were conducted by Pastor Paul Warnock.
