Elmer Stang passed away peacefully on August 15, 2004 at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre at the age of 84 years. Elmer was born in Macklin, Saskatchewan on November 29, 1919, the oldest son of Reinhold and Josephine Stang, and grew up in Primate. Elmer married Rose Rissling in 1946 and they farmed in the Ferrybank and Usona areas until 1990 when they retired to Ponoka. Elmer is survived by Rose, his loving wife of 58 years; children Donna (Bob) Smith, Brent (Debi) and Margo Stang (Gordon); grandchildren Rhonda (Dale) Girard, Colleen (Kevin) Halwa, Tara Smith and Ben and Veronica Stang; great-grandchildren Emily Girard and Nicholas and Kennedy Halwa; brothers Albert and Alois; sisters Pauline Biever, Geraldine Stang, Frances Stang, Josephine Heidt, Elizabeth Kuefler and Dolores Gerry; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, grandson Samuel Stang, brothers Ernie and Otto, and sisters Agnes Deck, Ida Prediger and Kathleen Shields. A Prayer Vigil will be held from the St. Augustineâs Catholic Church in Ponoka on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the St. Augustineâs Catholic Church in Ponoka on Thursday, August 19, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta or to a charity of your choice.
