ELVERS 1914 - 2007 John Allan (Jack) Elvers of Red Deer, beloved husband of Jean Elvers, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Red Deer Hospice Society, on Monday, April 24th 2007, at the age of 92 years. Born on December 6th, 1914 in Rossburn, Manitoba, he met the love of his life, Jean Craig at the age of 19 years. Jack and Jean were wed in St. Catherines, Ontario, on January 2nd, 1942 which began 65 loving years together. Jack served in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in Europe during World War II. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 35, Red Deer and B.P.O.E. No 85 (Elks), the Red Deer Golf & Country Club and the United Church A.O.T.S. men's club. Among Jacks many accomplishments were Co-founding the Red Deer Seed Company with long time family friend Al Hewlett. You can find some of Jack's contracting handiwork around Red Deer (Choice Homes) and also in the Rycroft seed cleaning plant. Jack was a man of great integrity, possessed a keen sense of humor and was a devoted and loving father to his son Terry. He enjoyed family times in the mountains camping, volunteering at his church, golfing and was a member of the Sierra Grand Cribbage Club. Survived by his loving wife, Jean of Red Deer, son, Terry, and his wife, Joanne, (Virginia, U.S.A.), and special “son”, Todd Purnell . Siblings include, sister Nancy Andrew, brother, Bill Elvers and his wife Mabel; sisters-in-law Masie Pickering and Emma Andrew; brother-in-law Alton Craig and his wife Esme. He is also mourned by many nieces and nephews including Russell and wife Donelda Braham (Curtis, Erin), Rena Lee and her husband Murray (Grayson, Bennett), Kathy Miller (Kim, Dana), Keith Elvers, Gordon Elvers and his wife Donna, Les Andrews and wife Cathy (and family). He will also be remembered and missed by many friends and neighbors.
